THE HARVEST SERIES IS BASED AROUND A SMALL SELECTION OF BEAUTIFUL CANVAS BAGS THAT I STUMBLED UPON ONE DAY THIS PAST SUMMER.
DURING HARVEST SEASON IN THE EARLY 1900'S, THESE BAGS WERE USED ON A FAMILY FARM LOCATED IN NORTHEASTERN NEW HAMPSHIRE FOR THE COLLECTION AND STORAGE OF APPLES. THE BAGS STARTED OFF AS FEED SACKS BUT AFTER BEING EMPTIED OF THEIR CONTENTS WERE THEN UTILIZED BY THE FARM AS HARVESTING SACKS. MOST LIKELY THIS WAS DUE TO THE BAGS BEING BOTH EXTREMELY DURABLE AND ALSO OF A LARGE SIZE.
THE NAME OF THE FARM AND THE INITIALS OF THE FARMER(S) WERE PRINTED ON THE BAGS IN A NUMBER OF DIFFERENT STYLES. SOME OF THE PRINTING HAS FADED WHILE OTHER SECTIONS HAVE STAYED VIBRANT. A FEW OF THE BAGS ALSO INCLUDE SMALL AREAS WHERE INTRICATE HAND-STITCHING INDICATE A REPAIR THAT SOMEONE MADE MANY YEARS AGO.
